Here is the latest part of the video series entitled “Fly tying tips and techniques in a minute” by Tim Flagler of Tightline productions. Each video teaches a single binding skill, from the simplest to the most advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone set to a vise to make a bow tie.

This week Tim will show you an ingenious and easy way to make the “bubble” body of a Sparkle Pupa, one of Gary Lafontaine’s greatest creations. Many levels struggle with this feature, but Tim has an “automatic” way to “inflate” the bubble. The key is to push the material back along the bare shaft. So be mindful when Tim says to limit the number of open spiral wraps.
