Patterns with large pieces of foam – Locusts, Chubby Chernobyls, and the like – pose a challenge for tiers: the foam wants to twist around the hook shank. In this week’s one minute tying tips video by Tightline productionsTim Flagler teaches you how to hold the foam in place using a series of counter-wraps. By flipping the thread twice, you ensure that the thread pulls in both directions at the same time, preventing the foam from rotating. It’s a simple, elegant solution to use whenever you’re binding with foam.

Note that the thread runs in the opposite direction to the normal direction.
